We arrive in Amsterdam 10 minutes after our connecting flight departs. But not before we see the Alps and Mont Blanc.
Thick fog delayed our take off from Rome and had us circling in the ‘holding area’ over Amsterdam until we were dizzy. In the airport, we take a number. Four hours later we learn that we’ll fly out tomorrow.
Bad news: we will not sleep in our own bed tonight and we don’t have our luggage. Good news: we’ll spend the night in Zandvoort, acute little beach town in the Netherlands about 40 minutes west of Amsterdam. KLM Airlines picks up the bill for taxi, hotel, dinner and breakfast; they even include an overnight pack with toiletries, a T-shirt, and socks.
Sweet town; impressive sand sculptures; cold beer; time for bed. We’ll try again tomorrow.
Not such a terrible inconvenience....glad all you need are t-shirts and socks for a new day!
Yep, just t-shirts and socks, that's all we need. 🙂 Jenn - you made this trip more fun!
Lucky its not raining there, enjoy your last night in Europe and what an incredible trip! Thanks for making us part of it.
Our time at Villa Sampaguita with you and Rena was a highlight of this trip. Thank you for staying with us the rest of the way!
Ain't travelin' fun. It's just not memorable enough without some chaos thrown in. I hope you are on your way now- welcome home (soon) to the Bend deep freeze- snow this week!
Spoken from your own experience! So glad you're home safe Thom. Thank you for great comments and good laughs - you made our trip more fun.
The Netherlands... My favorite country in Europe! And I am lucky enough to travel there on business often.
If your riding KLM, maybe you can get a flight home with one stop in St Maarten... and get stuck again. Or even better, the Volcano could do its thing again! I was there when the Iceland volcano blew and got stuck in Amsterdam for an extra 6 days... with my wife... Life was good!
Maybe tomorrow will bring a blog headline like: Working our way home visiting beach cities around the world - St Maarten/St Martin or Stuck in Amsterdam with the Portland Blues Again!
Be safe
Colo - thank you so much for being with us the whole trip and for your help before it. We're happy to have a new friend!
