There are about 500 citizens, and half that many friendly cats, who live in Civitella Marittima. The city sits up on a hill in the heart of Tuscany. There is a post office, a small clinic, a school, 2 bakeries, 2 cafés, 1 butcher, a small store, and 1 restaurant. Except for the restaurant and cafés, most businesses close at 12:30. The post office is open for a few hours 3 days a week.
Children play in the streets and call to us, “Ciao!” Out for an evening walk, people smile and say, “Buona Sera”. We feel welcome.
Here is our little Casina di Rosa.
This is a lovely tale of your time there. Would you be able to base here and see the surrounding areas without a car? We are traveling from Rome and would like to hike the surrounding areas and visit some of the hot springs.
Hi Deb! You’ll love the area. Honestly, it will be difficult to explore without a car. Driving in this area isn’t as stressful as driving in the larger cities…
Thank you for letting me know. Now to convince my husband. 👍
Can anyone advise me on the comfort of the beds? (From an older person with ocassional arthritic issues)…
Cindy, the bed was fairly firm which we found comfortable.
going and staying at Casina Di Rosa in October. I cannot wait!
Jealous!! 🙂
You picked the best area in Tuscany…. And the greatest hosts! I do love maremma. Enjoy your stay and thanks for promoting this area.
Yes, wonderful. We’ll surely be back…
PS: I need to cut those children’s hands! They keep deleting our little blackboard signs with the name of the house! LOL
What beautiful pictures!!! Thank you so much! We are very happy that you like our village!
Your photo of the sunset over the valley is beautiful! It makes the valley look like it’s on fire, gorgeous!
What HISTORY in this city!
