1ouncefresh lime juicefrom about 1 lime, plus more for garnish and wetting glass rim

fresh blackberriesfor garnish, optional
fresh thyme sprigsor fresh sage leaves for garnish, optional
Pitcher option, serves 8
2cupsblanco tequila
1cuporange liqueursuch as Cointreau
1cupfresh lime juice
1cupblackberry syrupplus more to taste
Instructions
Make the syrup
Blend blackberries, agave, and water until smooth. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer, pressing to extract liquid. For the smoothest result, strain a second time. Chill.
Prepare 1 Margarita
For a rim, mix salt or sugar with lime zest on a small plate. Swipe a lime wedge around the outside rim of your glass, then dip to coat. Fill glass with fresh ice.
Add tequila, orange liqueur, blackberry syrup, and lime juice to a shaker with ice. Shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds until very cold. Double-strain into the glass. Garnish and serve.
Prepare pitcher (serves 8)
Stir all ingredients in a pitcher and chill at least 30 minutes. Stir, then pour over fresh ice. Garnish and serve.

Notes
Muddled option: Skip the syrup and muddle 5 to 6 blackberries with 1/2 to 3/4 ounce agave in the shaker, add remaining ingredients and ice, shake, double-strain.
Frozen option: Blend the single recipe with a large handful of ice until slushy.
