Instructions
For a salted rim (optional): Spread a thin layer of salt in a wide, shallow dish. Run the flesh of a lime around the rim of your serving glass. Dip rim in the salt to coat and fill with ice.
Fill a cocktail shaker half way with ice, then add the tequila, blood orange juice, lime juice, and agave nectar.
Shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds, then strain (using the shaker's built-in strainer) into your ice-filled, salt-rimmed glass. Garnish with a blood orange wedge and enjoy!
Notes
For blended margaritas, add all ingredients to a high powered blender with 1 to 1.5 cups of ice (skip the shaker) and blend until smooth.
Pitcher option (8 drinks). Stir together 2 cups tequila, 2 cups fresh blood orange juice, 1 cup fresh lime juice, and 3 to 4 tablespoons agave nectar in a pitcher. Chill for at least 30 minutes. When ready to serve, stir, fill glasses with ice, and pour. Adjust agave to taste.
Serving tip: For parties I set out the pitcher, fresh ice, margarita salt, and a bowl of blood orange slices so guests can salt their own rims and garnish their own glasses.
